ABC Quilt Progress

Way back in September/October I shared these two quilt squares from an ABC quilt BOM that I started through a local quilt shop. I have been remiss in sharing futher blocks from the club and thought I'd take a moment to update you on my progress.

I have not yet started on June's blocks and there are a couple blocks that are partway completed that I will share when they are finished. With just July and August left of club this project should be completed in early fall. I just have to decide on how I would like to put them together.

BOM Club - Margaret

This weekend marks month 2 of one of my local quilt shop's BOM Club. I have choosen to do all 4 color  ways this year and have three of the four blocks complete.

Sorry about the following photos but they are of the free additional pattern we are getting with club. These patterns come from The Alphabet Quilt by Florence LaGenke that was part of a 25-week series that was published in newspapers in 1929 and 1930.



We're Off To The Quilter's

This along with two other quilt tops will be making the 45-minute journey to our favorite quilter this week...I can't wait to see it completed.

Starting to Come Together

My Raggedy and Friends quilt, a free BOM for the Painted Quilt, is starting to really take shape now that I have started adding sashing. When I purchased the blue I was a little unsure that it was the right choice but I love how it is coming together. In the photo block 7 is not quite complete but it is now.

Tomorrow I shall get a start on stitching block 10 which is assemble and just awaiting it's images.

Raggedy & Friends Block 1

After completing Ivy Girls' coverlet I needed a project to work on that was easy to tote to work and decided to start on Kaaren's BOM from last year. I have had a selection of Cottage Ramoance fabrics in my meager stash for a couple years and decided they would be perfect for these blocks and now that I have the first three blocks assembled and block 1 stitched I am pleased with my selection.  What do you think:

A Little of This and A Little of That

I met up with my perferred long arm quilter yesterday and was able to pick up the two quilts I left with her a couple weeks ago. The first was my kaleidoscope of color that will be a Christmas gift for mum.

The second, the Seeing Stars quilt that is a wedding gift for a friend's daughter.

Now on to finding some good moves to watch while I hem binding on both. The first is a king size so I might need several good movies.

I am hosting a shower for a friend that is having her first boy in a couple weeks and so today I got a jump start on some baby shower gift items. Both of her girls have a thing for sucking on their blankets so I thought the Ribbon Blanket on Moda Bake Shop was the perfect gift idea. I love these robot fabrics from Andover Fabrics and decided they would make a fun ribbon blanket. A purchase of 6 fat quarters from a local craft shop allows me to make 2 of these blankets as well as 2 sets of 3 burp cloths with scraps leftover for something else fun. I am sure with all the woman having babies at church at the moment that I will find a special home for the 2nd set of robot goodies.

I put together the 16 5" squares for the blanket this afternoon and will hopefully make it to the fabric shop sometime this week to pick up the minkee fabric to finish it out. I am leaning towards the aqua color as the backing but we shall see what they have to offer in colors at the store.

I am not so hot at drawing so I am on the look out for a super cute image of a robot that would be cute embrodiered on a onsies.

A Bit of a Challenge

Can I just say how glad I am that I have finally completed this portion of the quilt. I have never been so frustrated in putting together something. This thing practically had me in tears. I took out more seams then I can count due to stupid mistakes and not paying close attention. With the exception of the outer boarder the top is complete and I am relieved. Sat. I will be running a friend to the airport and so will take advantage of the opportunity to run by Fabric Depot to purchase fabric for the outer boarder and backing/binding. Dispite the challenge this presented I would like to make another in the future. This one will be going to Mum when it is complete.

Everything is Starting to Come Together

What a week! I started refinishing the kitchen cabinets this week and found that the project was a tad more then I thought it would be. It is starting to come together though and the white that I am painting the cabinets is a nice compliment to the wheat color that I painted the walls. Red is a gorgeous accent to the wheat so my plan (already in effect) is to accessories with red. When I wasn't stripping/sanding/painting cabinets I worked on catching up blocks for the Kaleidoscope of Kolor Quilt Club. Saturday was the second to last club meeting. The first Sat. in August we will all get together to share the results of our efforts. Worked a little last night on putting it together and this is what I have so far: I did missed Sat. club however because I spent Friday night with my Ivy Girl at the hospital. She was admitted over night due to respiratory distress brought on by croup. Sarah had it the first part of the week but did okay with it, just the cough and sore throat. Ivy on the other hand was pretty sick. A raging fever for two days plus the cough and sore throat and then the over nighter in the hospital. We came home yesterday mid morning and other then a little trouble with breathing in the night last night she is doing loads better. Never had to deal with croup and hope it does not appear in our midst again.

High Five and some Peace

Got the general idea for this project from a friend and then expanded on it adding the patchwork. I also spray painted the embrodier hoops white. This one is of Sarah's hand and Ivy's just needs the stitching done. I am hanging them in the girl's room for art work. Breezed right through Gail Pan's PEACE stitchery. Should be caught up on her blocks about the time the next one comes out...lol

The Buffet and Fowl Play

I am so loving these stitcheries from Willowberry. I am looking forward to seeing the end result at the close of the year. Was able to complete April and May's this week. Now I am working on "The Wonkey Houses".

Heaven and Nature

Completed this pillow today from Bareroots. I have done it a couple of times in the past as a gift and decided to do it again as it is one of my favorites. I do like to change it up a bit and use some fun fabrics. This photo is prior to my putting in the pillow form and as usual with my photo it is not the best but you get the idea. The bunny leaping across the center is so fun. Love the newest stichery from Willowberry and could not resist doing it before going to bed last night. It now joins the first two and I can't wait for next month's to be released.

Fabric Fun

Saturday was quilt club for the "Kaleidoscope of Kolor" quilt and I took the opportunity while I was there to purchase some fabrics that were on sale. From the moment I saw these fabrics from April Cornell I had to have them for the spring swap I signed up to participate in. I thought the colors and pattern spoke nothing but "spring". Aren't they lovely. The shop was also having a sale on fat quarters and I just had to get these five from the Oh, Cherry, Oh line. I fell in love with this line the moment I saw it and knew I wanted to do this quilt from Oh, Fransson. When I saw this quilt I instantly thought, "what a great picnic quilt!" The children and I join a group of ladies from church at the park each Weds. during the summer for "Picnic in the Park" so this quilt would definitely get used. Unfortunately the shop only had these five from the line so I will have to look else where to get the rest. Following quilt club and shopping I headed over to Jo-Ann's and purchased these fabrics for Sarah and Ivy's Easter dresses. I already purchased the ties from The Children's Place in the same colors for the boys so that all four kiddos will coordinate. I am leaning towards using Simplicity's 4647 (dress C with Bodice A)for the girl's dresses but have not totally decided. I did not get much sewing done this weekend as we were getting ready for DH to head out for some training before he heads off ooverseas. But I did manage to get started on making my blocks for the Siggy Swap after DH left yesterday. Just have to add the centers to the sixty blocks and I can get them in the mail.

Under The Willow

From the moment I saw Cheryl's Veranda Views BOM I knew I wanted to participate. I finally had the chance to do block 1, Under The WIllow yesterday and look forward to complete block 2 this weekend. Thank you Cheryl for your generousity in sharing this lovely stitchery pattern.

Indian Puzzel

This morning was month six of the 12-month BOM club I am participating in so yesterday I finally finished putting together the block. It is not at all my favorite block so far but after seeing the new block this morning I am liking it a little better.

Magical Star

Whew! What a sense of accomplishment. I am finally caught up on the blocks for "Kaleidoscope of Kolor", well until the next set comes out on Saturday that is. This one was by far the most time consuming of those we have done to date and I am glad to have the set of four completed.

Playing Catch-Up

With all the sewing I've done over the last two months for church activities and Christmas gifts I got slightly behind in both of my BOM clubs. So today I devoted some time to playing catch-up and am now just one block (set of 4) behind. Hopefully tomorrow will find that one complete. But here is a look at those completed today: Block #3 in the $5 club: Balkan Puzzle

Block #4 in the $5 club: Sunlight and Shadow I really like this block and am contemplating making a large quilt just repeating this block throughout...we will have to see.
