Quick Gifts

Thursday was a pretty productive day. I received an invitation to a baby shower in the post on Wednesday for a shower on friday night. Feeling a slight twinge of panic at the late notice I hunted through my fabric stash. I had made this same outfit for a friend a little over a year ago for her little girl and had just enough fabric remaining to put together another for this shower. I love this pattern as it is so cute and super quick to put together when you need something in a hurray. The new mom to be was very pleased with it. In addition to that Ivy had been invited to a party for a little friend from church and needed a gift. Another quick gift idea is the crayola roll. With the remaning fabric I was able to make a little purse to go with it. What little girl does not like a purse, and it is even better when there is something in it. I might get hooked on this pattern from Bitty Bits and Pieces for Moda Bakeshop. A quick fun project to put together. I do plan to do an applique on the front, just not the one Kim used in her tutorial. When complete it will go along with other items in the Angel Swap. I hope your week left you feeling productive as well. If not, I am still working on repainting my kitchen cabinates and would love some help. Almost half way through with that project. Had I known what a big undertaking it would be I might have waited for my husband to return...it will get done though and he will return to a "new" house. New in that almost all the walls have been repainted, new carpet and tile put in and now the kitchen.

Summertime Mini Quilt

Finally got the top of the quilt done for the Summertime Mini Quilt Swap. Hope to have it quilted on Tuesday and ready for the post on Wednesday. The colors are not a very summery color but the name of the fabric to me was perfect for summer, Dandelion Girl by Joanna Figueroa. This particular line is a couple of years pass but I had a bunch on hand and decided to use some for this swap. I have yet to find a group of fabric by Joanna Figueroa that I do not like. I also find the pinwheel design to have a summery feel to it as well and so I choose that design for the quilt.

New Carpet

After seven years of waiting we have finally been able to put in new carpet in our living room and hallway. What a difference! It's like having a new house. This photo is the best representation of the color however the hallway was not do at this point.

Not so Ordinary

I received a baby shower invite in the mail last Sat. for a shower that took place yesterday. I love baby showers and making gifts for them. In my search for ideas for the shower I came across this and had fun turning two ordinary onseis into these, the hit of the shower. I have also used Jody's tutorial several times for turning ordinary cloth diapers into cute burp towels. Using the left over fabric from this little overall I made this set of three burp towels. Also in the works this last week was canning pear sauce...YUM and putting in tile in the entryway in preparation for new carpet that is being put in tomorrow. The tiling was a new experience for me and although very nervous at first I am feeling a bit more confident with the process. The entryway was just a small job but it has left me feeling like I could tackle the family room without too much trouble. On a sad note for the week, two soldiers from my husband's unit were killed this week in Iraq. One was a very dear friend of my husband and it was so hard to receive a call from him last night. Hard to hear your loved one sobbing on the phone and being unable to offer the confort you know he needs. Our thoughts and prayers are with both families.

NEWLOOK 0557

Threw these jumpers together for the girls early in the week using Newlook's 0557. Did not like how short the pattern was however and so I lengthened them a bit. The fabric is a pinwale corduroy I found at Jo-Ann Fabrics. Withit's design of apples and pears andlate summer flowers I thought it perfect for fall.

Seperation Anxiety

I am in need of some advice. We have a sweet, wonderful dog named Annie. She is 3 years old and we have had her since she was 6-weeks old. She has til now been the best dog ever. In June the kiddos and I took a little trip to visit some relatives and left a friend here at the house to house/dog sit. One day while this friend was out and about Annie chewed her way through our brand new gate and got out to "Look" for us. Since this time she has found other ways of "breaking out" to search for us when the children and I leave the house. Recently breaking out screens in windows. She has always as I said been a really good dog and I am pretty frustrated by this new behavior. As punishment I have been chaining her up, something we have never done, for a period of time but that does not seem to be working. I assume most of this has been brought on by the fact that my husband is deployed and then the children and I went on the trip. I wish she could understand my words and know that we would never leave her but of course she cannot. So I have got to find a way to help her understand and to get this behavior nipped. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly welcomed. We love our Annie and worry about her.
